Weather Fail…

Didn’t run yesterday (it was raining).

Didn’t make up yesterday’s missed run today (still raining).

Running tomorrow looks like it won’t happen (supposed to be raining).

I probably could have squeezed in a run today, but it kept raining at odd intervals (seriously…there were times while I was driving home when it would be raining and then I’d cross the intersection and it wouldn’t be raining), and I didn’t want to be 1.5 miles from home when it started raining again. So, here I sit in comfy clothes and slippers trying to stay awake. Hey, energy…where’d you go? Would greatly appreciate it if you came back….

Nap for the Win

Today was my day to run after work with my co-worker. I was at a workshop all day (loved it), and she had a Poms clinic after school until 4:30/5:00. At about 2:00, while at my workshop, I got a blinding headache (literally…my vision was blurred. It rocked). So, I e-mailed her and bailed on our run in favor of coming home and laying down. I had every intention of laying down for a few minutes and then running when I felt better. I got home at 4:20ish and went straight for the couch. Paul called at 4:45 on his way home. And then all of a sudden it was 5:53 and I had no idea what happened. Whoops.

I’m feeling a little guilty for skipping the run. It’s the first scheduled run I’ve skipped for reasons other than thunderstorms or obscene heat. Not even dead fish stink kept me from running (though it probably would have if I had known about it before getting to the park…). Oh well. I’ll reschedule for tomorrow. I’m feeling more guilty for bailing on Melissa than I am for skipping the actual run, I guess. But it happens. Looks like I’m running tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday. Bleh.

Sunday Meal Plan and Goal Setting: 1/23

Stupid Bears. What’samattayou?

On to brighter things. Tomorrow is an institute day. Fun-filled day of learning about ADHD and Executive Functions. I’ve been griping about going to the workshop, but really, I am looking forward to it. I just get so bored and fidgety sitting still for 5 1/2 hours. I’ve met the presenter on several occasions, and he’s incredibly knowledgeable. I hope he’s a good lecturer as well.

Okay, so remember my plucky little post yesterday, where I said I wasn’t going to overdo things today at the football party? Well, I didn’t have any beer, and I only ate 2 slices of pizza. But they were large. And I ate a lot of cheese. And some tortilla chips and guacamole. And some meatballs. And some BBQ-bacon shrimp. Okay. No. None of this. Reality check time: Cheese is good for you, and I really only had maybe 7 little slices. The tortilla chips were multi-grain, which is certainly a better option. I only had 3 meatballs because I knew they weren’t the best thing there. I made the shrimp, so I know they are low-cal, and I know the stats for them. I just tracked everything now. Did I go over my points for today? Oh dear, yes. But I tracked it. I didn’t just claim today a loss. I’m also remaining hopeful because the girl making all the food is a healthy eater, too, so I’m holding out hope that she used light recipes, and that my tracking is off in my favor. We’ll see. I’ll just work extra hard at the gym this week.

Meal Plan Time:

Monday: Leftover Tilapia Puttanesca (WW recipe, 4 PointsPlus), cooked baby spinach (0 Points Plus), and maybe mashed potatoes (3 Points Plus) – Total 7 PointsPlus

Tuesday: Slow Cooker Kielbasa Bean Soup (Modified WW recipe, 5 Points Plus), salad

Wednesday: Leftover soup

Thursday: Leftover soup

Friday: Paul will likely have leftover soup. Maybe I’ll have a veggie burger.

Friday nights seem to be my downfall when it comes to planning meals. I go meatless on Fridays (it’s a Catholic thing), and so leftovers from the week always get passed up. I’ve really been avoiding fish lately. It just doesn’t sound good. The Tilapia Puttanesca I made yesterday was okay. Nothing to write home about. Maybe I’ll make some scallops.

I didn’t set a goal for myself last week, and I think that’s part of where I fell off track. I didn’t have anything I was hoping to achieve. So this week, I’m setting a goal to make it to the gym at least 4 times (Thursday might be a loss–I have my first night of wrestling supervision…eek!), and to start Couch to 5k for the hundredth time. Good golly…I hope I can actually stick to it this time.

Oh. It’s 8:00. I should probably get my things together for tomorrow. Honestly…where do the weekends go? And now I don’t have another day off until Feb. 21. But then spring break is right around the corner…followed closely by summer. Warm weather, please come soon. I miss you!

The Good, The Better, The Bad, and The Even Worse….

The Good: I’ve been doing really well with the gym. I’ve upped my time on the elliptical slightly (to 40 minutes), and I’ve been adding in abs and weights after every workout. And, I just earned my free water bottle from the gym for going a certain number of times. Free T-shirt, here I come!

The Better: I FIT INTO TWO PAIRS OF PANTS FROM MY CLOSET! Yes!!!! I haven’t been able to wear my trouser jeans in ages, and I tried them on on a whim today. They fit! (Okay, so there was a little bit of a muffin-top situation, but there was also a gap in the back, so I’m calling it even.) PLUS, I fit into a pair of black pants that have never really fit properly. Huzzah for expanding one’s wardrobe without actually shopping!

The Bad: Um… I didn’t go to the gym today. Which, in itself, is not bad. It’s okay to take a day off. However, coming home and binge eating is bad. Now, old-Carly would have said “Ho hum. I’ve thrown the week away. I’ll just start all over next week.” But not this time! New-Carly is keeping a positive attitude. The week is not over yet. I can still do better tomorrow. And I WILL do better tomorrow. And I did so well today. We had a baby shower for a co-worker, and I stuck to veggies and fruit, and a teeny tiny piece of cake.

The Even Worse: The reason I didn’t go to the gym today is because I was starting to feel sick. Rather than pushing myself and feeling worse later, I just decided to take the night off. That’s fine, I know that’s acceptable. However, I cannot afford to get sick right now. I have an eligibility meeting tomorrow, another next Friday, another the Wednesday after that, and then the Wednesday after that, and then that Friday as well. Plus, I need to schedule an annual review or two somewhere in that mess. And I haven’t finished testing for next week’s eligibility…. Ugh. Is it June yet? No?

Best part of my day: I got a text message from my mom that said “I wore a belt OVER my sweater today! How’s that for fashion forward?” Oh I love my mom. I replied with “Way to create a clearly defined waistline!”

Saturday: Weigh-in Day

Okay, so there were no posts this past week. Sorry about that. It was a bit of a hectic week. And hectic usually means “bad eating” and/or “poor choices.”

I did weigh myself last Saturday while I was visiting my family for the weekend. According to my parents’ scale (which is old and usually not correct), I was down 1 pound. Aaaaaand then we made Christmas cookies. And because I have absolutely no willpower, I regained that pound this week. I’m okay with it. It’s the holiday season, it’s okay to indulge a little bit, as long as it ends after the holidays. Paul and I have already decided to join a gym after the New Year (we’re only waiting so we can take advantage of the special pricing they’re likely to have).

Feeling rather lack-luster today. It’s housework day. It’s 11:40 and I’m still in my PJs. We’re planning on a movie night tonight since our previous plans fell through (feel better soon, Erica!). Gotta think of something to make for dinner…. I hear the slow cooker calling my name.
