Happy New Year


Want to start off with a big CONGRATULATIONS to my little Goober. Love you! So happy for you!

Okay, let’s get this over with. Admission time: I’m going to be one of those people…I’m making a resolution to lose weight. (Really, though, it’s more of a resolution to get back on track with my previously-healthy lifestyle.) I was planning on going back to WW yesterday to get things started right. However…since it’s just not in the budget right now, I’m going to have to be super confident in myself and believe that I CAN DO IT! I got up first thing yesterday and weighed in (and made Paul do the same). I’m not confident in my scale’s accuracy. Paul and I both have been eating like total crap lately, and according to our scale, he had LOST weight. Not fair. May have to weigh in at the gym tomorrow….

Oh, and that brings me to my next item…. We joined the park district on Friday, so we’ll be hitting up the fitness center after work. Not an ideal time to go, but that’s okay. It’s better than having to go at 4:00am. While the actual fitness room is pretty small at the gym, they also have a basketball court, track, racquetball courts, and group fitness classes (Zumba, here I come!), so there will be plenty of opportunity to spice things up. ūüôā But because we’ll be working out in the evening, this is going to screw up my weekly meal planning. I’ll be doing a lot more cooking on Saturdays and Sundays so that we have leftovers throughout the week. I’m thinking this will be a good thing, actually. First of all, I’ll be able to plan ahead a little better and get all the cooking done while I have time. Also, having meals that I just have to pop in the microwave is going to be extremely convenient, (hopefully) eliminating the desire to just order a pizza because we don’t feel like cooking. Plus, this way, if Paul has to work late one night, I’m not stuck at home wondering what I’m going to make just for myself. So, with that said, here’s this week’s dinner plan:

Sunday: Leftover Spicy Chicken-Spinach Pasta Bake (WW Recipe, 8 Points Plus)

Monday: Leftover Spicy Chicken-Spinach Pasta Bake

Tuesday: Leftover Pot Roast with Potatoes and Carrots (WW Recipe, 11 Points Plus)

Wednesday: Leftover Pot Roast with Potatoes and Carrots

Thursday: (Paul at bowling) Leftover Pot Roast with Potatoes and Carrots

Friday: Cioppino (Hungry Girl recipe, 5 Points Plus) and sandwich/salad

Saturday: We’ll be at a friend’s wedding. Note to self: I will not over-indulge….

I’m also adding a goal for myself for the week. I really need to start drinking more water, so my goal for the week is to drink at least 6 8-ounce servings of water each day this week.

Towards the end of December, Paul decided that our resolution ought to be getting in shape to the point where we wouldn’t feel (too) self-conscious going to the beach this summer. We haven’t been so great about keeping that resolution (see: previous Work-out Wednesday posts…or lack there-of). However, I realized today that we are planning a vacation to Orlando this summer…which means hanging out by the swimming pool most days, and walking around in shorts when not at the pool. So, this is my motivation now. I WILL buy a swimsuit this year, since I haven’t bought a new one since my senior year of high school. I NEED to buy a swimsuit this year, seeing as I don’t currently own any, having lost ~30 pounds since the purchase of the previously mentioned swimsuit. Let’s hope I can keep this motivation going.

Early Resolutions


Okay, so the New Year will soon be upon us, and one of my many resolutions is to blog more. My poor neglected blog…. So, to help me keep this resolution (as opposed to the others, which are sure to fizzle out by February), I’m coming up with themed days to keep my posts up. I need some help, though. Here’s what I have so far. Give me some input.

Sunday: Something Scrumptious Sunday; Since I don’t have much time to cook during the week, I usually make something tasty on Saturday nights. I need to try new recipes, so I’ll try them out and let you know how it goes.

Monday: ???

Tuesday: ???

Wednesday: Work-Out Wednesday; Just a quick post about work-out (running) progress. Hopefully this will keep me motivated to keep running, because right now, I got nothin’.

Thursday: Thankful Thursday; I’ve decided that I’m grumpy more often than not, and so I need to spend some time reflecting on the good things in my life each week.

Friday: Fashion Forward Friday; I like Elena’s “What I Wore” posts, so I’m going to copy. I’ll either post a picture of something I wore during the week, or a picture of something I want to be wearing. : )

Saturday: Sleep-in Saturday; I’m taking the day off.

Now, on to more important things…I need a dress for a friend’s upcoming wedding. I really don’t want to wear a solid black dress, like I do to most weddings/social events. Send me some good leads. I’m hitting Woodfield tomorrow! I shall not fail!

So this is the New Year…


…and I don’t feel any different.

Actually, that’s not true. For once in my life, I’m not resolving to lose weight, and that¬†makes me feel¬†pretty darn awesome.¬† Plus, the New Year brings 2 very important life events: 1. I will graduate forEVER this year, 2. I will get married this year.

I don’t make resolutions, per se. I did last year…I resolved to be less wasteful, and I think it turned out pretty well. But my problem with resolutions is that I never remember them a few months down the line. I’ve always liked the way¬†this girl¬†picks a theme for each new year, but I don’t know that I could abide by a whole theme. So, inspired by Elena’s post¬†(which sums up a post from another blog), I am choosing a word to represent this year. That word is “Growth.”

I have a lot of growing to do in the next year, particularly before November 7. This includes physical growth (growing stronger, gaining endurance, hopefully running a half marathon), spiritual growth (can’t keep neglecting my prayer life), financial growth (earning more money, saving more money, becoming financially independent), personal growth, emotional growth…among other things.

I think “growth” will be a good word. And 2009 will be a good year.

Heck Yeah!


I’m realizing that at the beginning of every semester, I have such a positive attitude. I always tell myself that I’m going to do all the readings and I’m going to be so prepared and I’m going to study more….blah blah blah. Then the three-week mark hits, and I haven’t done the readings since the first week, I’ve put off studying/writing papers, I wait until the last minute to do everything…. I did it senior year and I did it last semester, and¬†I can¬†already see myself doing it this semester. But I really want to¬†keep the positive attitude. I really want to do all the readings and be prepared ahead of time. I think I might actually be a good student this semester. See where it gets me.
